Prominent Democratic Donor Taken into Custody on Serious Allegations

A prominent Texas trial lawyer and significant Democrat donor has been charged with a misdemeanor offense following the assault of a family member, leading to a call to Houston police and the individual being taken into custody.

Eric Dick, a lawyer from Houston and a trustee on the board of the Harris County Department of Education, was arrested on March 7 after he struck a family member, who was later identified as his wife. Nevertheless, scant information has been disclosed regarding the specifics of the assault and the injuries inflicted by Mr. Dick.

Furthermore, Mr. Dick’s political background has been a point of perplexity even prior to his arrest, as the Texan serves as a Republican while contributing $30,750 to support Democrats in the 2024 election, including a notable $25,000 donation to the Community Justice PAC, which aims to elect Democratic judicial candidates.

In a statement to Houston Public Media, a spokesperson for the Houston Police Department provided additional details regarding Mr. Dick’s arrest, noting, “It was about 5:40 a.m. on March 7; a 39-year-old female reported that she had argued with him and was pushed to the ground and punched,” the spokesperson stated. He subsequently secured himself in the bathroom. We successfully persuaded him to speak, and he informed the officer that they had both engaged in an argument, after which he was taken into custody.

Following the incident, Mr. Dick reached out to The Houston Landing via email to offer a public apology. He stated, “I love (the alleged victim) with all of my heart and am sorry for any embarrassment that I caused her,” and was subsequently released without the need to post bail.

In a subsequent email reply to Houston Public Media, Dick conveyed additional regret regarding the incident, stating, “I deeply regret any embarrassment I may have caused [my wife],” he mentioned in the statement. “Marriage presents its challenges, and I recognize that being married to a workaholic lawyer can be particularly difficult.” My wife is, and will forever remain, the love of my life.

Mr. Dick’s latest arrest marks yet another instance of his involvement with the law. On May 29, 2024, the Hawaii Attorney General’s office filed charges against Mr. Dick and his law firm, alleging unauthorized practice of law and attempted unauthorized practice of law, both classified as misdemeanors. Dick has allegedly entered a plea of not guilty.
